The Association for Preservation Technology International (APT) is a multi - disciplinary, membership organization dedicated to promoting the best technology for conserving/preserving historic structures and their settings. APT’s mission is to advance appropriate traditional and new technologies to care for, protect, and promote the longevity of the built environment and to cultivate the exchange of knowledge throughout the international community. The APT Eastern Great Lakes Chapter (EGLC) encompasses Michigan, northern Ohio and northern Indiana. As a relatively new chapter, the eastern portion of EGLC is working within Northern Ohio to establish a relationship with those persons directly involved in the application of methods and materials to maintain, conserve, and protect historic structures and sites for future use and appreciation.
The tour of the May Co. building will provide APT EGLC the opportunity to introduce ourselves to the interdisciplinary preservation, architecture, and construction community. Since the building in question is constructed of historic terra cotta, the events goal would be to provide participants information on the historic material, technology behind executed repairs, the design process behind the rehabilitation and general background on this adaptive reuse project. As a follow on to the May Co. tour, APT EGLC will host a technical lecture in July on Terra Cotta presented by the International Masonry Institute. Please Share this announcement with those who would be interested.
