The Hotel Galvez, which faces the Gulf of Mexico, is at
the far end of Galveston Island about 50 miles southeast of Houston. The
Hotel Galvez address is 2024 Seawall Boulevard, Galveston, Texas 7550.
Arriving in Texas—the Airports
Two major airports service Houston: George Bush Intercontinental
Airport (IAH) on the north side of Houston about 60 miles from the Hotel
Galvez and William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) on the south side of Houston
about 40 miles from the Hotel Galvez. There is no commercial airport on
the island.
Because of its proximity and ease of use, the APT planning
committee members highly recommend using Hobby for national flights.
(International attendees can connect to Hobby through other ports of
entry.)
Once you’re in Texas—Getting to the Hotel Galvez
There are three options: rent a car, take a shuttle, hire a taxi.
Car Rental
Avis is the preferred rental car company of APT 2004. Conference

available car rental rates or click on

Avis Worldwide
Discount (AWD) Number: D086960.
Directions from the airports to Galveston Island are at
www.galveston.com/transportation. Once on the island, stay on I-45,
which turns into Avenue J (Broadway). Turn right on 25th Street
(Rosenberg) and then left on Seawall Blvd. The hotel entrance is on the
left.
Shuttle
APT has contracted with Galveston Limousine to provide discounted
rates for APT conference attendees who book and pay for a seat in advance
on-line at
www.galvestonlimousineservice.com. Because the shuttle stops at other
hotels prior to the Hotel Galvez, allow up to two hours for the trip from

Weather/Dress in Galveston
The climate on the Gulf Coast of Texas is moderated by the warm
currents of the Gulf
Stream. Average high temperatures in early November are in the mid 70s
with overnight lows in the low 60s. Dress will be generally casual. You
may wish to bring something warm as there is always a chance a cold front
will push down temperatures. |
