This year Pecos NHP, in northern New Mexico, will be hosting a TICRAT (International Conference on the Conservation and Restoration of Earthen Architecture) at the park from June 13-15th. The park is located 20 miles east of Santa Fe, New Mexico. (Park website:

The park is working with the University of New Mexico, the NPS Vanishing Treasures program, Cornerstones Inc., and INAH Mexico to provide hands-on workshops and lectures focused on the preservation of earthen architecture.

Topics will include adobe construction/preservation, materials analysis, condition assessment and monitoring, mud and lime plastering, repointing mortar joints, veneer construction techniques, and mud capping to name a few.

Tuition is covered for NPS staff to attend on a first come-first serve basis until funds run out. Preference will be given to NPS staff who actively manage or preserve sites with earthen architecture or earthen components.
