APT’s Legacy Project
Lee Nelson:  Building a Legacy
Near to where APT was founded, Québec will provide the perfect opportunity to reflect on the 46-year history of APT with a short presentation before the COF Lecture. Lonnie Hovey, AIA, FAPT, will introduce the APT Legacy Project, an initiative of the APT College of Fellows, which is researching APT’s founders, early members, officers, and board members. Emily Vance will then provide a presentation on the life and work of Lee Nelson, a pioneering historic preservation architect, most noted for his role in the restoration of Independence Hall, and for being a founding father of APT.

Over the past year, The Historic Preservation Education Foundation has sponsored extensive research on Mr. Nelson and his professional papers, which are housed in the Special Collections at the University of Oregon. Ms. Vance has prepared a bibliography on Mr. Nelson, as well as an exhibit at the University of Oregon Library earlier this year. Through her research, Vance will discuss Nelson's background and ties to the APT, along with his influence in nurturing and shaping the historic preservation movement in the US. Emily Vance, a former archaeologist for the National Park Service, has recently received her MS in historic preservation from the University of Oregon.

The Student Scholarship and Outreach Committee raised $18,000 in 35 minutes during its 2012 Dessert Auction. Let’s see if we can top that!

With lovely desserts under our belts, we will glide into a dance in the beautiful Salle de bal at the Fairmont Le Château Frontenac, a ballroom with a long tradition of dancing and balls. Dance instructors will offer a ballroom dance primer to the big band sounds of yesteryear.
