APT encourages and supports Conference participation by Latin American and Caribbean preservation professionals, and is pleased to partner with The Getty Foundation which generously funds professional travel support for Conference attendees from that region. These competitive grants cover up to $2,500 for airfare, lodging and a small per diem. The application deadline was June 22.

In addition, support from The Getty Foundation allows the simultaneous intrepretation of Conference paper presentations, keynote sessions and the APT Annual General Meeting in English<>Spanish. The rest of the programme will be presented in English only.

Getty grant recipients, along with all Conference participants, will gain enhanced expertise through international exchange. Getty bursary recipients who are not currently members of APT will receive complimentary membership through June 30, 2013, and will have the opportunity to participate in and support the APT Latin America Chapter.

Requirements:
To qualify for a Professional Travel Support Grant, candidates should:

  • Have paid the registration fee to the Conference APT Charleston 2012. Register online
  • Be a permanent resident in Latin America (Argentina, Bolivia, Brasil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, México, Nicaragua, Panamá, Paraguay, Perú, Puerto Rico, República Dominicana, Uruguay, Venezuela)
  • Complete the Application, including a detailed budget for the trip, a justification for the grant and and curriculum vitae.
  • Advance purchase airfare round trip from place of residence to the city of Charleston, South Carolina, USA and assume the costs for local ground transportation (at the country of origin) and keep receipts. Grant winners will receive a refund through a bank transfer after the Conference.
  • Be able to actively participate in a Conference that will be presented primarily in English. However, there will be simultaneous interpretation into Spanish for the keynote and paper sessions core.
  • Submit a poster by mail no later than August 10, 2012, for exhibition during the Conference.
  • Actively participate in the APT Latin America Chapter poster session during the Conference (Monday afternoon, October 1, 3:30-5:00pm)
  • Submit an evaluation after the Conference.

Reimbursement:
Beneficiaries of the Professional Travel Support Assistance must prepay their expenses for round trip air transportation from their place of residence to the city of Charleston, SC, USA, and cover the cost for all ground transportation before arriving in Charleston. Ground transportation between the airport in Charleston, SC, USA and the Francis Marion Hotel will be coordinated and paid directly by APT. APT will pay the Hotel directly for a maximum of three (3) nights. Any additional night at the hotel for persons who only register for the Conference will be the sole responsibility of the grant beneficiary. A per diem for travel expenses will be distributed in cash at the beginning of the Conference; upon presentation of receipts and completion of the Evaluation, reimbursement will be made by wire transfer after the Conference.

Important: Grant recipients who for any reason do not register at the Conference or decide not to attend the Conference will receive no refund.
