Northeast Chapter

The APT Northeast Chapter encompasses New England, New York State, and northern New Jersey. Our Chapter is committed to serving this large geographic community with regional and local events and to foster a network of preservation professionals for the exchange of ideas and information on preservation technology, theory, and practice.

The APT New York Chapter was founded in the mid-1980s with members from New York and neighboring states. It conducted workshops, co-sponsored events with local and statewide preservation organizations, and sponsored symposia. After a period of dormancy the chapter was reorganized to meet the technical needs of its members and to create a regional network of preservation professionals, which includes architects, conservators, engineers, construction mangers, craftspeople, and historians. The reorganization spawned the APT Northeast Chapter (APTNE).

APTNE organizes many preservation-related events for its members, including tours of stone quarries, historic homes and museums, boat tours, networking events, holiday parties, and pub crawls at historic urban watering holes. We also host an Annual Symposium including our most recent one “Water and Its Impact on Historic Sites and Structures” in Newport, Rhode Island which 200 people from the northeast region attended. Elections are held at the symposium; we thank outgoing board members for their hard work and dedication which have greatly contributed to the energy and success of the Chapter and we welcome the new incoming members.

APTNE continues to be active with engaging students in the field of historic preservation. The Chapter consistently provides annual scholarships for students to attend the APTI and APTNE conferences and accepts a student paper for presenting at our Annual Symposium. The Northeast Chapter continues to gain support in the preservation industry and currently has 150 active members.

The Chapter has launched a new website which announces news and events and facilitates registering for those events, and becoming a member or sponsor.
