Rowhouse City: History and Adaptation in Philadelphia
October 7-8, 2022

REGISTRATION

This two-day symposium will focus on the history and development of the rowhouse in Philadelphia, critically evaluate its current conditions, and identify the inherent advantages and challenges associated with its preservation in a 21st-century context.

Day one speakers will explore the history of rowhouse development, and will include Charles Duff, Ted Maust, Jeffrey Cohen, Kim Hoagland, Donna Rilling, Amy Hillier, Bruce Laverty, Andrew Dolkart, Francesca Ammon, and more.

The second day of the symposium will examine current and potential approaches towards rowhouse preservation, with a focus on community engagement, energy improvements and more sensitive development. We will close with a panel discussion led by Inga Saffron which will consider the future of the rowhouse as a resilient and adaptable building type. The full list of day two speakers will be announced in May.
