An Overview of Wood Decay

Robert Blanchette, PhD, will provide an overview of types of wood decay caused by microorganisms in historic wooden structures. Case studies will include wood—both historic and contemporary—in temperate climates, polar climates, and hot and arid climates.

Robert Blanchette, PhD, is a Professor and Forest Pathologist in the Department of Plant Pathology, University of Minnesota. His research is focused on mechanisms of wood decay and the interdisciplinary investigations of microorganisms responsible for this decay.

The roundtable will include a thirty-minute presentation by followed by a thirty-minute discussion.
